Data Center Technician / System Engineering

Position Summary:

The Data Center Technician / System Engineer primary role and responsibility is to pro-actively respond to and support all hardware and infrastructure installations and interface within the IT department and with external customers and vendors.

Job Function/Description:

Primary point of support for all server and infrastructure installations, maintenance troubleshooting and remediation for high performance compute data center
Uses advanced troubleshooting skills for hardware and infrastructure problem or failure remediation
Generates and works from ticket system to provide support and project
Monitors and maintains all data center cooling and electrical systems
Installs new blade server chassis from rack & stack to RHEL OS provisioning
Planning & execution of new M1000e chassis installation & Rack electrical PDU upgrades
Planning & execution of EOL server decommissions
Administer Data Center infrastructure monitoring applications
Administer Dell OME application for blade server chassis
Interface with electrical and infrastructure vendors for routine maintenance visits
Order supplies to replenish data center stock or for upcoming projects
Inventory/Asset Mgmt. and reporting (e.g. CMMS or other related system)
Ability to quickly manage or shift priorities as needed or directed to meet changing goals or requirements.
Provides weekly status reports to management
Reports to IT Sr. Engineering staff and management

Qualifications:

3+ years as a data center and infrastructure engineer in medium to large data center environments (100-500 servers with supporting infrastructure servers)
RHCE and 2-3 years’ experience working with high performance server environments
Unix network troubleshooting skills from servers to switches
Working knowledge of server virtualization
Ability to work within large storage environments as integrated into server cluster.
Experience working in a Highly Available data center environment with high uptime with little to no disruption in services or availability

Nice To Have:

High performance compute cluster administration in an EDA environment
Managing server and infrastructure within a semiconductor design engineering environment
Dell M1000e blade server chassis and M620 or later blade server administration and troubleshooting experience
Experience with APC UPS’s, PDU’s, InRow Cooling, RusselElectric Automatic Transfer Switches, GENRAC Generators
APC Data Center Expert administration experience
Dell Open Manage Essentials administration experience
DCIM or CDCP or IDCA certification
Jira ticketing system and Jira Project Management experience

Working Environment:

Regular daytime working hours: 8AM-5PM M-F and overtime as needed. Schedule to be flexible to work with IT staff to complete tasks and projects as assigned.
Some weekend work will be necessary for off-hours support and preventative maintenance planned downtimes
Data Center environments with harsh acoustic and temperature extremes
Able to lift and or manage loads up to 75lbs
Ability to work in cramped or close quarters or in elevated spaces using ladders and lifts
